I am having trouble grasping the interpretation of the determinant of the covariance matrix in equation 1.52. Bishop doesn't give any context to the equation after introducing it. Anyone feel like they have a good working understanding of what is going on there?
I also was wondering if there are any resources available to help in working through the proof of equation 1.59? I am getting hung up on 1.58 and why that equation is the functional form for the variance.
